Everything you need to know about Sworn Translation
A sworn translation gives official validity to documents in another language, so they are accepted by public authorities, consulates, universities and notary offices in Brazil and abroad.
What it is
It is the official translation done by a sworn public translator and commercial interpreter, who has passed a public examination and is registered with the Commercial Registry of their Brazilian state. It is regulated by Law No. 14,195/2021 and has legal validity: the translated document carries the same weight as the original.

Frequently asked questions
Does a sworn translation expire?
The translation itself has no set expiry date, but some institutions require recent documents (for example, issued within the last 90 days). Check the requirements of the receiving body.
Can I send a photo of the document?
Yes. For the quote, a clear photo or PDF is enough. For the translation, the translator works from the digital copy of the document.
Is a sworn translation accepted in other countries?
In most cases, yes, especially when accompanied by the Hague Apostille. Some countries require a local certified translation, such as Canada (ATIO) and Australia (NAATI).
How long does it take?
It depends on the volume and the turnaround you choose. Simple documents, such as certificates, are usually ready within a few business days. An express option is available.
